A Trip to Disneyland Paris with our Grandchildren
71
Having raised our children, how proud we are of the wonderful, responsible and loving adults and parents they have now become. Their own characters reflected in the personalities of our 3 precious grandchildren.
Becoming a grandparent has been one of the most rewarding and beautiful experiences of my life.
Jake is now 9 years of age and his smile melts my heart. Eve is 6 years old and is as pretty as a princess. Sophie is 4 years of age and her laughter is a breath of fresh air!
The highlight of 2011 was a trip to Disneyland Paris with the 3 grandchildren and their parents. Unfortunately Cloverleaf living in Canada was too far away to join us for this trip, but it was reminiscent of our trip there a few years ago and bought back many wonderful memories.
I wrote a hub about this surprise Disneyland trip in My Daughter’s Secret.
It had been a pipeline dream of mine, to take the grandchildren to Disneyland. I was surprised and delighted one day, when my step-daughter and son in law asked if we, my son, his wife and Sophie would like to join them with Jake and Eve for a weekend in Disneyland, nine of us in all!
Everyone agreed it was a fantastic idea and the trip was booked. We decided we wanted to stay in a hotel in the Disneyland park and booked our stay in the Newport Bay Club hotel. About a week before we were due to go, we received a phone call to offer us an upgrade to the Hotel New York, we graciously accepted and the excitement mounted!
We travelled by Eurostar which is a high speed railway service connecting London with Paris. All it’s trains traverse the Channel Tunnel between England and France. The journey took approximately 2 hours 30 minutes and was a new experience for all of us. It took us from St Pancras in London direct to the park in Paris.
As soon as you enter the park you are greeted by the magical atmosphere of Disney. The size of the park is quite overwhelming, we had a 2 day pass but in that time we probably only saw about a third of it!
The hotel was fabulous and the staff so cheerful and friendly, they went out of their way to make our visit special.
We packed as much as possible into our stay, it was non-stop fun, action and laughter. All the rides, parades and shows were impressive, there was so much to see and do. Disney characters were everywhere in the park and were a favourite with the grandchildren. We were so impressed with their friendly attitude to everyone and the children loved them!
Most memorable of all was the 'quality time' we spent with our family. Together we experienced the world of Disney, with it‘s colourful and delightful characters from the wonderful fairy tale stories that we have all grown up with, it was truly magical.
Forever imprinted upon my mind will be the expressions of surprise and excitement on the faces of the grandchildren.
The look of sheer delight and disbelief on Sophie’s face as her favourite Disney character ‘Mary Poppins’ picked her out in the crowd and waved to her, as she waved back laughing it bought tears to our eyes.
Jake dragging us back for a third ride on the cars, he drove the car behind us, I can still hear him laughing and cheering!
Eve meeting and posing for another photograph with yet another princess, looking as pretty as a princess herself!
If you have never had a trip to Disneyland with your grandchildren, we can thoroughly recommend it. A fabulous experience, exhausting but fabulous!

My younger son informed me that we had to go to London yesterday. He told me, "I need to see the London Bridges." I think his preschool class has been singing the song, haha! Disneyland Paris looks like a lot of fun - we didn't go on our first trip, but we didn't have kids when we lived in Europe.
Hello MM. I hope you are putting together what may be the best memories book ever assembled for these beautiful people that surround you in your life. Thanks for sharing this advneture with us.
I have carried in my wallent a picture of my youngest at Disneyland, California at about age three. Her smile is so big I was afraid her face might break.

HI. Yes, grandparents are lucky. We get to watch the joy in their little eyes. I really do enjoy mine, and taking short trips with them. But gosh, I get so tired.
Lovely hub. I identify.
What a great family of children you have and so fortunate to have you for a grandparent. It is always wonderful to see things through their eyes when visiting places like Disney. The Paris Disney looks simliar to the US parks. Glad you had a great time.

Lesley, What a delightful, enjoyable, fun trip this must have been! Your grandchildren are so photogenic, and the photographer is undoubtedly none other than the skilled, talented Movie Master. In particular, I liked the episodes of Sophie with Mary Poppins, Jake with the cars, and Princess Eve with the princesses.
Thank you for sharing, etc.,
Respectfully, and with best 2012 wishes to you, Nick and your families, Derdriu

This sounds like the trip of a lifetime and all of the kids seem to be at just the right age to go. My Grandmother took me to Disney Land in California when I was a child and it remains a fond memory for me. Your pleasure of spending time with your Grandchildren touches my heart. Voted up!

What a fun trip! What was the Eurostar train ride like? We once flew to Paris from Ireland, but that was long before we had kids. We're living in the US again, but want to take the kids to London/Paris when they get older. What a fabulous day for everyone - it looks so magical!
